Travel Tips by Carrie

Welcome, fellow travelers! Whether you consider yourself a regular tourist, a hardcore adventurer, or a recurrent road tripper, my tips on everything related to travel are sure to help. I am here to inspire, motivate, and advise to ensure the success of all your future journeys – near or far. In this blog, you will find tips, “best of” lists, reviews, recommendations, and other ramblings all related to my passion: travel.

While most people love to travel, I (seriously) LOVE to travel and everything that comes along with it. Packing a suitcase full of extremely fragile souvenirs you’re determined to get home without a scratch? Give me a call. Can’t fit all your new clothes and gifts into the suitcase that was already packed to the brim when you left? Been there, done that. Not sure what you should see while vacationing in __________? No problem. I’ll send you my recommended sites list. Which airport should you fly into? I got it. Know a good travel app? I’m your girl.

I find inexplicable comfort and pleasure in planning, coordinating, investigating, packing, unpacking, and even packing for others. I’ve done it with my eyes closed and one arm tied behind my back. True story. Check out my Top Ten Tips for Packing Luggage blog to get started and come back for the latest and greatest in travel advice and know-how!

Carrara, Italy and its 3 M’s (Massive Marble Mountains)

Remember the fight scene in the most recent James Bond movie (the one with the super pretentious sub-title…Quantam of something)? Remember the amazing car chase sequence over mountains covered in white dust that immediately followed the fight scene? Well that whole sequence (which appears to be just minutes after the fight scene on some of Siena’s roof tops) takes place in a city called Carrara. Just FYI, it is about 2 and half hours drive from Siena to Carrara. (See map below) Continue Reading…

Things to do PART III: Nightlife in Florence 101

A part of getting to know any city is finding out what it does when the rest of the world is sleeping. Here are some tips and my favorite spots in Florence for entertainment, libation, and general nighttime merry making.

**TIPS**
There are a ton of places in the city to go. Some have more Italians and some have more Americans. Unless you speak Italian it can be hard at the posh Italian places but there are some great spots where both tourists and Italians go and enjoy themselves.

Since this often meant bars had to provide more and more food they have either stopped all together or started charging for it. But the charge can be minimal so it is still really worth it!

Now onto my favorite spots… Continue Reading…

Things to do PART I: churches, monasteries, museums & gardens

How can I even begin to list all of wonderful art-related things to see in Florence? It is believed to be the city with the largest concentration of famous art in the world!! I mean the place is literally packed to the brim with beautiful objects. And if you are like me, you want to see all them.

Over the many years I have lived in Italy I STILL have not seen them all…but I think I got pretty close. Below is a list of my favorite places to see in Florence that are churches, monasteries, museums, or gardens. This list is really geared towards those of you who do not have a month so I am leaving some really amazing things off this list simply in interest of time. Later I will write a post about all those amazing things I recommend seeing if you do have the time, or if it is your second or third trip to this great city. At the very least, this will help you pick the best things to see for your FIRST trip to Florence (and then some!). Continue Reading…
