Our new program video is here!

We look forward to it every year. We get together (with lots of tissues) and we cull through the endless footage from the summer (and all the summers before). There’s laughter. There’s crying. There’s the ooh and the awww and then finally, there’s the perfect expression of how much the trip means to so many wonderful and amazing women. Its all the feels all the time. Enjoy.

Select Study Abroad June 2015: Week One! (Pisa, Lucca, Duomo & David)

Almost exactly two weeks ago some pretty incredible Alpha Delta Pi & Alpha Phi ladies showed up in Florence and took the city by storm. We have been so busy doing, well, EVERYTHING, we barely noticed how much we’ve already done. Here’s a look back at just some of the highlights from week one! We start off with our first few days in Chianti at the stunning Villa Saulina to catch some sun (and some sleep after the long flight), followed by a trip to Pisa for some tower pictures and Lucca for some bike riding and tower climbing. Up next is our first day exploring Florence with an end-of-day picnic in the gorgeous Boboli Gardens for some stunning views and our first group dinner in our new city. Then the epic Duomo/Cathedral day where we scaled the massive Dome of Florence for the best views of the city you can find, and finally, of course, we visited with Michelangelo’s David. Yes. All this is just one week. And that’s only the beginning. DSC00249 Continue reading…

Tips & Tricks for a day in Cinque Terre

Italy_coastlineSummer is around the corner and some of you are beginning to plan your trips to Italy. Many of my friends and family that come to visit during the summer months usually have one thing in mind: the beach. Excellent plan. While there is lots of “coastline” to choose from in Italy, Cinque Terre (chink-way ter-re), or the five earths (aka towns), has risen to the top of the popular spots for tourists. This is an especially great escape from Florence (which can be very hot during the summer) and can easily be done in a day!

Recently, while writing to a friend who is planning just such a day trip, I was trying to remember all the ins and outs and I realized that there were maybe a few more than the average person can just “pick up,” especially if the Italian is limited. So I thought, why not make it easy (for me and for others) and put it all in one place. Below you will find all the need-to-know info from how to get there for less to what you can skip to save time and from where to hike to where not to. Of course we’ll tackle the food, I mean, the cuisine is worth the trip in itself, but we’ll also be sure you know how to make it home without getting stranded there (unless that is part of the plan). Enjoy and see you there this summer!

Photo of the Week: Summer in Florence

Photo of the Week: Summer in Florence

Summer is officially here! On June 21st we experienced the Summer Solstice, where the sun moved to its furthest point north of the equator and we enjoyed the longest day of the year. However, I don’t think any of us here even noticed! With about 5 days leading up to the 21st hovering at a balmy 93 degrees, we got the message. Which was apparently to get our tank tops, light dresses, linen, and mesh (whatever you got!) out of the closet cause summer ain’t messin’ around. Luckily for us, it rained again (never thought I’d say that!) and the heat wave was temporarily broken. On San Giovanni day the late afternoon thunder storms gave way to an amazing double rainbow and perfect fluffy clouds to frame the festivities and fireworks. Then yesterday’s on-and-off-again showers made way to this breathtaking sunset that (with the hundreds of tourists and locals stopping to photograph it) seemed like the perfect opening to what promises to be a wonderful summer. So until the fall equinox, gelato wishes and granita dreams to all!
