Florence & The Italian Riviera Itinerary:

Each day of the Florence & Italian Riviera Mother & Daughter trip will focus on a different aspect of Italian culture to discover together. These themed days feature educational activities, guided tours, tastings and demonstrations, mouth-watering meals, a hands-on cooking class, and beach time, of course! We’ll begin in Florence before heading out to gorgeous Sestri Levante, a picture perfect coastal town with two beautiful bays. While on the coast, we will venture to other destinations along the Italian Riviera, including the gorgeous towns of Cinque Terre, Portofino, and Santa Margherita.

A Florentine Welcome: After your arrival, meet the rest of the mothers and daughters, as well as your Florence guide to get the inside scoop on many of the main sights right around the corner from where you’re staying. Afterwards, enjoy a welcome dinner together.

Art + Artisan & The Florence Cathedral: Spend the morning exploring the studios and ateliers of Florence’s talented artisans with your guide. Watch the age-old art of paper marbling and book making and see the still cherished practice of jewelry making with the city’s practicing artists. Then, enjoy a guided tour of the city’s real gem, the Florence cathedral and the cathedral museum. Join our guide to learn about its fascinating history and just how the famed architect Filippo Brunelleschi was able to build the massive dome without modern mathematical tools and just his intuition.

Sun, Sand, & Sea, Please: We’ll trade the cobblestone streets of Florence for the sand of the Italian Riviera when we head out to Sestri Levante in the morning. Travel by private bus to the coast, check into our hotel, and hit the beach. Relax seaside at one of the bagni (beachside facilities, complete with chairs and umbrellas). Stay there for the rest of the day, head over to the hotel pool and terrace, or just relax in town enjoying the impressive views onto both the Bay of Silence and the Bay of Fables. Then join us for a group dinner to sample some of the local specialties!

On the Waterfront: Cinque Terre: In the morning, head out to the largest and most famous of the towns in Cinque Terre, Monterosso. We’ll grab some beach chairs and umbrellas as our “home base” in the main part of town. Stay with us on the beach, go for a hike, travel to the other four towns, or walk around Monterosso and sample some of the region’s delectable treats (hello, lemons and pesto!). Then, take a special sunset boat tour along the Cinque Terre coast. See all five famous towns of Cinque Terre (aka “Five Lands”) the way they were meant to be seen, from the water. Afterwards, we’ll head back to Monterosso for dinner on your own and then our hotel in the evening with that glorious just-back-from-the-beach feeling.

Along the Coast: A day in Santa Margherita and Portofino: Today, we’ll venture north to the Portofino peninsula. This square promontory, that breaks the line of the Ligurian coast, is about three miles each way, with its stunning towns of Camogli, Rapallo, Santa Margherita, and Portofino. Drive along the coast and explore these treasures of the Italian Riviera with a stop in Santa Margherita for lunch by the sea.

Best of Both Worlds: Check out of our hotel in the morning, but don’t waste the last of the sun and sand! Go shopping, walk along the boardwalk, head to the beach, or enjoy the pool for one more glorious morning. That afternoon, we’ll return to Florence and those fabulous cobblestone streets. After check-in, head out on the town with your perfect tan and coveted beach hair for all of the Florentines to see.

Buon Appetito & the Cherry on Top!: Top the trip off with a cooking class to recreate some of the wonderful flavors you’ve experienced. Learn about the proper techniques and ingredients used by Italian chefs to make dishes that allow you to take Italy with you, wherever you go. Then, because no one should come to Florence without seeing it, we will visit the incomparable David by Michelangelo. Some things really are worth the flight alone. That night, bring your newfound knowledge (art historical and gastronomic) to our final dinner for one last glorious meal together.

Frequently asked questions:
I can’t travel with my mom/daughter. Does that mean I can’t come?
Of course not! We know there are lots of different forms of “mother” and “daughter” relationships and we welcome them all. We have had granddaughters and grandmothers, stepmoms and stepdaughters, aunts and nieces, surrogate moms, and even sisters traveling in honor of their mom. What we prize are these strong female relationships and women traveling and growing together.
My sister (or another family member) wants to come, too. Can three people come together?
Of course she can come! We’ve had many moms with two daughters join us before and are happy to accommodate a triple room. Prices listed are per person.
What are your affiliate sororities?
We work with Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Kappa, and Tri Sigma.
My mom and/or daughter is not part of a sorority, can we still attend?
Yes! Only one of you has to be a current member or alumnae to attend!
I am affiliated with a different sorority, can I still join this trip?
We are currently working with the above-mentioned sororities, but our network is always growing. Apply as “other” and we’ll contact you directly.
